The script was written by Peter Balko, who wrote the script for Candidate/Kandidát, the Slovak box office hit of 2013.
The Line takes place in 2007 in Ubľa at the Slovak-Ukrainian border, which is about to become the external border of the Schengen zone with a maximum level of security. The crime thriller consists of three storylines concerning three different people. The stories intersect at the moment when all three protagonists hear a gunshot at the border.
“The centre of our attention are the people who fulfil the dreams of these illegal migrants, these ordinary people who live in the border area on both sides of the Schengen border. Who cares that they live on the edge of law and sometimes far beyond it? Their children need to eat and the house needs a new roof...” says the producer of the film, Wanda Adamík Hrycová.
The planned budget is 1,310,000 EUR. The first part of shooting ended in January 2016. The second part is planned for August, September and October this year in Bratislava, eastern Slovakia and western Ukraine. The release date should be March 2017.
The main production company, Wandal Production, is still looking for Czech and Hungarian coproduction partners. The ambitious project already received attention at pitching forums at Karlovy Vary, Ukrainian Molodist Film Festival and Kiev Media Week.
Confirmed coproduction partners are Slovak RTVS and InsightMedia Producing Center. The Line was financially supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Creative Europe Media.
