Slovenian films breaking all records

By

Slovenian films are popular as never before domestically. Of the 25 films currently being screened in Ljubljana, one-fifth were made in Slovenia, according to the Slovenian daily Delo.

By far the biggest crowd-pleaser is Rooster's Breakfast, which has pulled in 170,000 viewers in just 17 weeks to become the biggest hit in the last four years. Although Rooster's Breakfast is a social drama set in the late 1990s, most of the successful films are comedies.

Delo writes that just a year ago there was not a single Slovenian film in the cinemas, and domestic filmmakers were still preoccupied with financial problems.
