This year’s line-up includes 11 live action features, 9 creative documentaries and 2 animation shorts coming from 18 countries. All the selected projects will get their chance to be pitched to more than 600 decision makers and film professionals from over 60 countries, leaning into a constellation of new connections and opportunities.
A journey across time
This year’s selection will walk us across different times and places, weaving together past wounds and future challenges in a unique set of stories that deeply resonate with our present day – confronting bias, navigating inner conflicts and finding a way through an ever-shifting reality.
As in past editions, we will be joined by a compelling mix of directors from various countries and backgrounds such as Biennale College Cinema alumni Anita Rivaroli (Orange Peel, 2024 selection) and Silvia Brunelli (La Santa Piccola, 2019 winner), Cristina Grosan, returning to WEMW after her successful debut Ordinary Failures - awarded as Best Director at Venice Film Festival 2022, Alireza Ghasemi, presenting his first animated documentary film after receiving the Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2024 for his debut In the Land of Brothers, Sander Joon, shortlisted at the Academy Awards 2022 with the animated short Sierra and now introducing one of the two animated projects of this year’s line-up, Vasile Todinca, debuting with his first feature film following the selection of the short film Alișveriș at the 2025 Cannes Critics’ Week, last but not least, Sarah Fattahi, winner of the Golden Leopard Filmmakers of the Present at Locarno Film Festival 2018 with her debut Chaos and now developing her new feature.
Prizes and Awards
All 22 projects will have the opportunity to compete for two 5.000€ cash prizes: the Film Center Serbia Development Award and the CICLIC WEMW Award (granted by the French Centre-Val de Loire Region).
