The mentorship programme was launched in 2020 with the goal of fostering a better female representation in management and leadership roles within independent film distribution, a sector that has been marked by significant imbalance. The concept brings together a more junior woman in distribution with an experienced mentor to share experiences and insights, career guidance, challenges, and professional goals. The pairs for this sixth edition were first connected in June 2025 and have been meeting online regularly since (or in person at festivals, where possible). Over the past 10 months, they explored a broad range of topics and skills, tailored to each mentee’s needs and the internal structure and dynamic established within each pair. This workshop offers a valuable opportunity for all the women involved to learn from each another and to strengthen and expand their professional network. This year’s programme brings together women from a wide range of European countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, Norway, Poland and The Netherlands.
In the months ahead, Europa Distribution will continue to engage discussions on the distinct challenges faced in the circulation, release and promotion of independent films. Starting with a panel focusing on Asian releases in the scope of Focus Asia in Udine from 26 – 29 April. And the next edition of the mentorship programme has already been launched so… stay tuned!
Articles covering ED activities will be available on Cineuropa and Europa Distribution’s website and social media channels.
