Fresh off the public announcement at the Polish Days in Wroclaw, When East Meets West is thrilled to introduce Poland and Benelux as the 2027 East & West Focus.

WEMW’s 17th edition, returning to Trieste from January 17 - 19, will see the new Focus bringing together projects, professionals, ideas and funds from Poland, Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands.

The “2-year mismatched” format, designed to foster cross-border cooperation and maximise the range of co-production and distribution opportunities among the industries in focus, will once again pair a consecutive two year-showcase on an Eastern territory  with the upcoming 2027 edition marking the first year for Poland  with a rotating Western region, bringing Benelux back in the spotlight after its first 2025 Focus.

The 2027 East & West Focus is made possible thanks to the support of the Polish Film Institute, CCA-Film and Audiovisual Center, Flanders Audiovisual Fund, Screen Flanders, Film Fund Luxembourg and the Netherlands Film Fundsecuring the total participation from these four territories of over 80 film professionals — including producers, talents & decision makers — across all sections of the market.

Calls for submissions for WEMW 2027 will open between late August and early September, renewing a rich programme dedicated to both projects in phase of development and post-production as well as film professionals, featuring WEMW longstanding Co-Production Forum and Works in Progress sections alongside the EAVE Slate programme, a wide selection of Inspirational Labs and the second edition of the Films x Games Connection Hub.
