KARLOVY VARY: The 10 films of the 2016 Lux Film Prize Official Selection for 2016 have been announced at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
MOSCOW: The 38th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival held from 23-30 June awarded its top prize, the Golden St George, to the Iranian film Daughter directed by Reza Mirkarimi. It was the second win in Moscow for Mirkarimi who won the MIFF Grand Prix in 2008 for his film As Simple As That. Both films are family dramas about family values set in Iran.
VALLETTA: The second edition of the Valletta Film Festival (VFF), held from 3 to 11 June in the Maltese capitol, wrapped with The Yard (Sweden) directed by Mans Mansson taking the prize for Best Film in the main competition as well as picking up the prize for Best Cinematography for Ita Zbroniec Zajt.
MALTA: A conference entitled The Cinema of Small Nations is being organised by the Film Grain Foundation in conjunction with the Malta Film Commission and will be held in Valletta, Malta between the 9th and 10th of June 2016 as part of the second edition of the Valletta Film Festival (VFF).

KRAKOW: The 56th Krakow Film Festival awarded its top prize the Golden Horn for Best Film to the Russian/Estonian documentary My Friend Boris Nemtsov directed by Zosya Rodkevich.
CANNES: Romania celebrated a bumper year in Cannes with Cristan Mungiu winning the prize for Best Director for his film Graduation. The prize was shared ex-aqueo with the French/Czech coproduction Personal Shopper by Olivier Assayas
CANNES: The winner of the 10th anniversary edition of the Krzysztof Kieslowski ScripTeast Award for the Best Script from Eastern Europe is When The Trees Fall by Marysia Nikitiuk from Ukraine.
CANNES: Estonians had much to celebrate in Cannes with the visit of the European Commission Vice-President and former prime minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip to the Estonian stand and the announcement of a 12 000 EUR development grant for the winner of the B’EST EAVE Producers Workshop this week.
