VENICE: Films from Dea Kulumbegashvili, Andrei Ujică, Peter Kerekes, Bogdan Mureșanu and Vojtech Strakaty have been selected for the Competition and Horizons (Orizzonti) sections of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, which will be held 28 August – 7 September 2024.

BUCHAREST: TWST / Things We Said Today, the new work by the acclaimed Romanian-German writer / director Andrei Ujică, will have its world premiere in the Official Selection - Out of Competition of the 81st Venice IFF (28 August – 7 September 2024). This French/Romanian coproduction has been a dream project for Ujică since high school.

VENICE: Projects from Lithuania, Malta and the Czech Republic have been selected for Venice Immersive within the 81st Venice International Film Festival (28 August - 7 September 2024). The Antique by Georgian Rusudan Glurjidze will screen in the competition of Giornate degli Autori, while Serbian documentarian Mladen Kovačević’s Possibility of Paradise has been selected out of competition.

KARLOVY VARY: The 1st Annual Czech Leonarda Film Award was launched during the Karlovy Vary IFF for female filmmakers who create scripts for feature and documentary films, animated films, new TV formats and experimental films for cinema, television or the web.

KARLOVY VARY: Northern Irish documentary maker Mark Cousins took home the Grand Prix - Crystal Globe at the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for his film A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things (UK), which screened in the main competition. The film is about the life and work of Scottish artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, an under-appreciated female artist of last century. The festival took place 28 June to 6 July 2024.

KARLOVY VARY: The winners of KVIFF Eastern Promises, the industry segment of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, have been announced. The 58th edition of the festival is held from 28 June to 6 July 2024.

VALLETTA: Turkish film Life / Hayat by Zeki Demirkubuz, which screened in the main competition at the second annual Mediterrane Film Festival, won the Golden Bee for Best Feature Film. British director Mike Leigh was honoured with the festival’s Career Achievement Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to celebrated Maltese veteran production coordinator Rita Galea (World War Z).

VALLETTA: The Mediterrane Film Festival has announced the full programme for its second edition taking place in Valletta from 22 to 30 June 2024. The festival is organised by the Malta Film Commission under the theme Unity through Film.

KARLOVY VARY: New films by Iveta Grófová, Adam Martinec, Bruno Anković and Beata Parkanová are among the 12 titles selected for the Crystal Globe Competition of the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which will be held from 28 June to 6 July 2024. A total of 15 out of 32 films featured in the official selection are debuts.
