JIHLAVA: Eleven films will compete in the Czech Joy section of the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (www.dokument-festival.com) taking place 23-28 October 2012.
EDINBURGH: Representatives from the Ministries of Culture of six of the newest EU and CEE countries have said there is a need to support coproductions and to find new sources of funding in future to support their film industries.
The Slovak film industry saw the full benefits of its new funding system which was launched in 2009, during the past year, with a marked increase in domestic films and coproductions hitting the local and international markets. Two Slovak productions were in the TOP 10 at the Slovak box office over the past year.
With the Lithuanian Film Centre (www.lfc.lt) beginning operations on 1 May 2012, the local film industry has received a strong and much-needed boost.
This year has seen the beginning of the revival of the Hungarian film industry, with filmmakers once again able to access funding after a nearly two year hiatus.
Croatia's most significant recent event affecting the film and TV industry was the approval of a 20% cash rebate for production costs incurred for feature films, documentaries, animation and TV drama in 2011.

final destination: Guimarães, 2012
European Capital of Culture.

issue in Europe.
12 young
filmmakers will make 4 short films
while traveling inside of a purpose constructed Double Decker Bus, which will
also be a moving office studio and accomodation. The project will take place
between 10th of November - 1st of
December.

announcmente of the selectied participants will be made on the first week of

- The candidates should be between the ages 18-32.

Selected participants will arrive in the starting city on the 10th of November;
departure from Guimarães is on the 3rd of December.
- Participants
will have 20% of their travel costs covered up to a limit of 75 Euros financing.
They should provide the organizers a scanned/digital version of their tickets or
boarding passes.

The
Confidant is a thriller about the
clash of an individual facing the well-organized force of state security. Young
Czech film star Jiří Mádl plays the role of Adam, a young radio ham forced to save his girlfriend Eve from official
harassment and thus deciding to sign a "contract with the devil" of
state security, becoming a secret police agent wiretapping people to obtain
compromising materials to be used against them.
PRAGUE: Czech director Martin Privatsky is in postproduction with Tomorrow Will Be Better, a documentary about Libor Podmol, a struggling and fatherless Czech village boy who became the 2010 world freestyle motorcross champion.
