TALLINN: The year 2019 turned out to be another record-breaking year for Estonian film industry. Domestic films had more than 847,000 admissions, which is an all-time record. The year’s record-breaker was Truth and Justice, the historical epic directed by Tanel Toom and produced by Ivo Felt from Allfilm.

TALLINN: The Estonian Film Institute (EFI) gave out 1.8 m EUR for the production of three domestic features, and also 320,000 EUR for the production of seven minority coproductions.

TALLINN: Year 2019 broke another record in Estonia as four domestic films made it to the overall top ten. Tanel Toom’s Truth and Justice / Tõde ja õigus became the most popular film since Estonia re-gained its independence, with over 267,000 admissions.

TALLINN: Estonia’s 2019 domestic film admissions have already surpassed the 2018 record, with over 802,000 admissions and another seven weeks still to come. There are two animated features and one documentary among the most-watched films, which is even more impressive.

TALLINN: Henrik Ruben Genz’s war drama Erna at War / Erna läheb sõtta, a coproduction between Denmark, Belgium and Estonia starring Trine Dyrholm, is currently shooting in Estonia. It’s the first time that a film project that big is filmed in Tartu, the second biggest town in Estonia and the European Capital of Culture 2024. The project is benefiting from Estonia’s cash rebate programme.

TALLINN: Priit Pääsuke, the director of The End of the Chain, is working on his second feature, Kids of the Night. The shooting started at the end of July and will wrap on 24 August 2019.

TALLINN: The Estonian Film Institute has given 1.76 m EUR to ten feature films since the beginning of 2019.

ESTONIA: The renowned Estonian director Peeter Simm is currently shooting the coming of age drama On the Water / Vee peal. The shooting period started in February and will continue throughout the summer.

TALLINN: Christopher Nolan’s spy thriller Tenet, produced by Warner Bros., will start shooting in Tallinn in June. The cast includes David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki and Michael Caine.

TALLINN: Domestic films in Estonia have passed the 650 000 admissions mark in just four and a half months. In 2018, Estonian films had almost 649,000 admissions in total. The increase in domestic film admissions indicates that 2019 promises to be the most successful year yet.
