RIGA: Latvia is seeing an abundance of 18 domestic theatrical releases in the last quarter of 2022, with cinemas fully operational in 2022 after two years of on and off pandemic restrictions. Eleven feature films, one long animated film and six documentaries will have their premieres this fall.

RIGA: The historical drama In the Land That Sings / Zeme, kas dzied directed by Māris Martinsons has just wrapped the third stage of shooting in Latvia. The film is a Latvian/Estonian coproduction.

RIGA: Director/producer/scriptwriter Matīss Kaža has launched the new Latvian production studio Trickster Pictures. The first title released by the Riga-based company is the coming-of-age Neon Spring / Neona pavasaris directed by Matīss Kaža, which has been acquired by Magnolia Pictures International ahead of its world premiere at the Edinburgh IFF on 15 August 2022.

RIGA: Latvian director Liene Linde wrapped the shoot of her debut feature Black Velvet / Melnais samts on 3 August 2022. This Latvian/Lithuanian coproduction is a partly autobiographical dramedy about a 30 year old woman Marta, a film director.

RIGA: Family feature film The Book of Everything by Dutch director Ineke Houtman starts shooting in Latvia on 3 August 2022. The Dutch/Latvian coproduction will be shot in Latvia for 16 days and received cash rebates from the Riga Film Fund and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.

RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia has distributed almost 2 m EUR for the production of 16 projects, including five feature films, seven documentaries, one long animated film and three animated short films.

RIGA: Latvian director's Viesturs Kairišs latest work, the autobiographical history drama January, has been acquired by the international sales company The Yellow Affair.

RIGA: The first-ever Latvian/Indian coproduction Manny, directed by Latvian director Dace Pūce, was released on 7 May in Latvian cinemas. The film is produced by Latvia’s Marana Productions and India’s Sonal Sehgal Films.

RIGA: The Latvian film Flow / Straume directed by Gints Zilbalodis is currently in preproduction. The second long animated film by the Annecy Contrechamp competition winner Gints Zilbalodis has been selected for France's CNC (Centre national du cinéma t de l’image animée) advance on earnings.

VILNIUS: Algimantas Puipa's Cinephilia and Andrius Blaževičus Runner have scored the most nominations,13 each, at the Lithuanian National Silver Crane film awards, which will be announced on 5 June 2022. Both films are nominated in the category of best film and best script. They are followed by Laurynas Bareiša's Pilgrims with 11 nominations.
