SOFIA: Thirteen Bulgarian films will vie in the various competitions of the 21st IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival, the only festival in Bulgaria certified to nominate professional short films for consideration by the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Academy Awards. The festival is held in the town of Pernik from 29 June to 6 July 2024.

Bulgaria 23-05-2024SOFIA: Nadejda Koseva’s sophomore feature The Trap will be released in Bulgarian cinemas in October 2024 by Purple Rain. The Bulgarian/German film has recently received the Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor Award for Alexander Trifonov at the SEE Los Angeles 2024, as well Best Director, Best Production Design and Best Lead Actor at the 3rd National Film Festival “Vasil Gendov” - Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Awards, held on 16 Маy 2024.
SOFIA: The Bulgarian/German coproduction Blaga’s Lessons by Stephan Komandarev received the Best Feature Film Award at the closing ceremony of the third edition of the National Film Festival “Vasil Gendov” - Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Awards, held at the National Theatre “Ivan Vazov” on 16 Маy 2024.

Bulgaria 27-03-2024SOFIA: Bulgarian contemporary artist Kamen Stoyanov is currently in postproduction with his directorial debut Zvezda Abramovich, which is produced by Zornitsa Sophia and supported by the Bulgarian National Film Center.
SOFIA: Sujo (Mexico, France, USA) directеd by Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez received the Sofia City Film Award in the International Competition for First and Second Films at the 28th Sofia International Film Festival.
PRODUCTION: Bulgarian Director/Producer Dimitar Kotzev Preps Feature Film For You
Bulgaria 13-02-2024SOFIA: Bulgarian director/producer Dimitar Kotzev is in preproduction with his fourth feature film For You, whose shooting will start on 7 May 2024. The Bulgarian National Film Center is supporting the project.
SOFIA: Admissions to domestic films declined in Bulgaria from 644,238 in 2022 to 410,785 in 2023, even though 28 new titles were released, compared to 25 in 2022. However, general admissions and box office increased.
PLOVDIV: The 27th Golden Rhyton Festival of Bulgarian Documentary and Animated Film, taking place 14 - 21 December 2023 in the city of Plovdiv, is screening a record number of films in its two official competitions.
