SOFIA: The Armenian/German coproduction Landshaft by Daniel Kötter received the award for best international long documentary at the 5th edition of the Rhodope International Documentary Film Fest (RIFE), held in the Bulgarian town of Smolyan from 10 to 13 July 2025.

SOFIA: The historical feature Pilots directed by Anri Koulev and supported by the Bulgarian National Film Center is welcoming coproducers sharing the passion for flight and pilot films, which are according to the director “a separate genre with its own huge audience”.

SOFIA: Bulgarian screenwriter Teodora Markova is working on her directorial debut The Inspector's Debt. The first-ever feature film coproduction between Bulgaria and Latvia has already received public funding in both countries.

SOFIA: The International Emmy Awards® Semi-Final Judging was held in Sofia for the first time on 19 June 2025, with an expert jury evaluating projects in the Comedy category. The event was organised by United Media, Southeast Europe’s leading media company, in partnership with Nova Broadcasting Group.

SOFIA: The Bulgarian film industry is increasingly attracting international interest, supported by strong production infrastructure, incentive schemes, and a vibrant filmmaking community. In this context, the Bulgarian National Film Center  has launched Filmcenter.bg, a dedicated platform for international producers, directors, and film companies seeking opportunities for filming, coproductions, or investment in Bulgaria.

SOFIA: The 14th edition of the Sofia Pride Film Fest will showcase 11 feature films and 13 short films, each offering a unique perspective on the lives, challenges, and experiences of queer people. The festival will take place in Sofia from 3 to 12 June 2025, and all titles will compete for the Audience Awards.

STARA ZAGORA: Nine feature films will screen in the Official Competition of the 12th Golden Linden International Film Festival for New European Cinema, which will take place in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria from 31 May to 4 June 2025.

SOFIA: Pavel Vesnakov’s Windless received the Best Feature Film Award at the closing ceremony of the fourth edition of the National Film Festival “Vasil Gendov” - Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Awards. The award was presented by Andrey Zvyagintsev, who was in Sofia for a comprehensive retrospective of his body of work.

SOFIA: Bulgarian director Kostadin Bonev is currently in production with his Bulgarian/Albanian/Italian coproduction She Who Remains, based on a novel by the award-winning Bulgarian writer and actor Rene Karabash.

SOFIA: Bulgarian director Petar Krumov is currently in postproduction with his debut feature, the Bulgarian/Belgian coproduction Barefoot Bull. The film produced by Rossitsa Valkanova is a bittersweet coming-of-age drama.
