BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Centre (CNC) allotted 4,283,656 EUR / 20 m RON for production and development grants at its first session for 2018. The biggest grant went to the minority coproduction Quo vadis, Aida! by Jasmila Žbanić, coproduced by Romania’s Digital Cube. Seven of the ten feature film projects receiving production grants are international coproductions.

BUCHAREST: Four coproductions from CEE countries which premiered in Cannes in 2018 are among the eight titles competing for a distribution award in the new competition Aide à la Distribution launched by Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest. The festival, initiated by Cristian Mungiu with the support of the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux, takes place in Bucharest and also in seven Romanian towns from 19 October to 11 November 2018.

The National Commission for Prognosis has announced the members of the Film Commission which will select the projects, among them two Americans, Stan McCoy (President of Motion Picture Association) and actor Kevin Dillon

BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Centre (CNC) has prepared a new film law, which would boost support and visibility for the film and cinema industry.  The new draft law would introduce a separate category for minority coproduction grants and offers more support for domestic films in cinemas and on TV.

BUCHAREST: Gabi Virginia Şarga and Cătălin Rotaru’s debut feature Thou Shalt Not Kill / Să nu ucizi has been acquired by Paris-based Indie Sales ahead of its world premiere in the 1-2 Competition of the 34th Warsaw FF. Their first short film 4.15 PM The End of the World was selected for the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
