CLUJ-NAPOCA: Andrei Crețulescu's debut feature Charleston will screen in the Competition and also in the Romanian Days at the 17th edition of Transilvania IFF running from 25 May to 3 June 2018. This Romanian/French coproduction had its world premiere in the International Competition of the 2017 Locarno Festival.

BUCHAREST: The Romanian Film Center (CNC) distributed almost 10.7 m EUR / 50 m RON as production and development grants on 11 May 2018. Seventeen feature films and ten debut features received production support.

TBILISI: The number of foreign productions using Georgia’s two-year-old cash rebate are expected to increase dramatically this year. „We anticipate around 10 international projects benefitting from the cash rebate to be shot in Georgia in 2018 compared to five in 2017”, Lika Mezvrishvili, the Head of Film in Georgia, told FNE. Three foreign productions have been shot so far in 2018.

BUCHAREST: The new feature film Donbass by Sergei Loznitsa, which will open Cannes’s Un Certain Regard on 9 May 2018, is currently in postproduction. The film is a German/ French/Ukrainian/Dutch/Romanian coproduction. Most of the postproduction takes place in Bucharest at Digital Cube.

This month we speak with Margarita Arsova, the programmer of the Youth Cultural Center in Skopje, Macedonia. The center runs several venues including three cinemas – Millenium (with 505 seats), Frosina (with 263 seats) and Pocket (with 80 seats). Millenium and Frosina cinemas are part of the Europa Cinemas network.

ZAGREB: The drama series Newspapers / Novine directed by Dalibor Matanić has been sold to Netflix and will become available in 130 countries. Netflix also bought the second season of the series, that is still in production and whose release is expected in September 2018.
