As every year, the City Municipality of Adana will be bringing together students and film in the now traditional ‘Schools in Cinema, Cinema in Schools’ section at this year’s 19th Golden Boll Film Festival.
Special screenings will be held for disabled persons at the Festival, which runs from 17th-23rd September 2012. In addition, a mini open-air cinema will be set up at the Adana Old People’s Home, giving residents a taste of the Festival spirit.
The deputy mayor of Adana, Zihni Aldırmaz, stated that the 19th Golden Boll Film Festival sought this year, as every year, to bring together children and the art of cinema with the now traditional programme section, ‘Schools in Cinema, Cinema in Schools’.
Under this section of the Festival programme, students will be able to watch films in two screens at the Cinemaximum and Avşar cinemas. The special screenings will take place daily at 10.00 from 18th-21st September. Separately, film screenings will be held at 71 schools. The section, aimed at some 80,000 students, will present a selection of films chosen specially for children.
CINEMA FOR THE DISABLED...
Deputy mayor Aldırmaz noted that this year would also see special film screenings put on for the disabled again. He explained: “This event is organized jointly by the Adana City Council’s Committee for the Disabled, the city’s rehabilitation centres and related schools. And it will give students with visual, hearing and mental impairments the opportunity to watch specially selected films at a dedicated cinema in Acıbadem Hospital. The screenings will take place at 10.00 every day between 17th-22nd September.”
For disabled adults, on the other hand, there will be a programme of screenings at the Municipal Theatre Hall beginning at 14.00 on 17th, 19th, 20th and 21st September. The line-up includes: Çalgı Çengi (Dancing Girl), a 2011 production directed by Selçuk Aydemir, with the voice of Doǧa Rutkay; Orçun Benli’s 2012 feature, Bu Son Olsun (Never Again), with a voice-over by Burç Kümbetlioǧlu; and the Onur Ünlü directed 2008 film, Güneşin Oǧlu (Son of the Sun), with the voice of Beste Bereket.
FESTIVAL FEVER AT OLD PEOPLE’S HOME...
Pointing out that the Festival hadn't forgotten residents of the Adana Old People’s Home either, the deputy mayor, Zihni Aldırmaz, went on: “As in previous years, a mini open-air cinema will be set up in the garden of the old people’s home to give residents an enjoyable time.”
Screenings at the Adana Old People’s Home will begin at 19.00 daily from 17th-21st September in a programme featuring Berlin Kaplanı (Berlin Tiger), Eyvah Eyvah 1 (Oh My God 1), Eyvah Eyvah 2 (Oh My God 2), Neşeli Hayat (A Jolly Life) and Entel Köy Efeköye Karşı (Ecotopia).
