THE 8TH EDITION OF ‘MEETINGS ON THE BRIDGE’ STARTS!

    The 8th edition of the Meetings on the Bridge organised within the scope of the 32nd Istanbul Film Festival under the sponsorship of Efes starts.

     

    Efes who has been supporting the Turkish cinema for the past 26 years, is the sponsor of Turkish Cinema section of the Istanbul Film Festival and is also giving
    the Special Jury Prize of 30.000 US Dollars at the National Golden Tulip Competition of the festival. Efes
    has increased its support to the Turkish Cinema by undertaking the sponsorship of Meetings on the Bridge
    as of this year, and started supporting the films from the project and production stages.

    The Film Development and Work In Progress Workshops will be realised on Wednesday, 10 April
    and Thursday, 11 April with the participation of directors and producers from Turkey. Following the first
    international presentation of the projects and the films in post-production stage during the workshops, the
    awards will be presented to the selected projects and the films at the awards ceremony on Thursday, 11
    April at the French Palais.

    The participants of the Film Development Workshop selected among the submissions are:

    The projects selected by the jury at the end of the workshop will be awarded with the Republic of Turkey
    Ministry of Tourism and Culture Support Award of 10.000 US Dollars, Melodika Sound Post-
    Production Support Award, French National Cinema Centre (CNC) Award of 10.000 Euro and Binger
    Lab Script Advisory Award worth 2.500 Euro.
    The participants of the Work In Progress Workshop selected among the submissions are:

    The producer of the film selected by the jury at the end of the workshop will be awarded with Efes Award of
    10.000 US Dollars to be used for the publicity of the film. The 1000VOLT Post-Production Award covering
    all the online-post production will be presented to the producer of the winning film selected by the jury.

    The Turkey-Germany Co-Production Development Fund established through the cooperation of the
    Meetings On The Bridge, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Film
    Funds will continue to support Turkish-German co-productions not started their shooting yet. The selection
    committee meeting of this fund aiming at providing a further incentive for co-productions between the two
    countries will be held during the Meeting on the Bridge. The projects to be supported as well as the winners
    of Meeting on the Bridge workshops will be announced at the Meetings on the Bridge Awards Ceremony
    on Thursday, 11 April.

    MEETINGS ON THE BRIDGE PANELS

    The Meeting on the Bridge panels to take place during the Istanbul Film Festival from 5 to 12 April at
    Akbank Sanat, Salon IKSV, Bilgi University and French Cultural Center are open to all professional
    filmmakers, film students and cinephiles.

    The first event of the 8th Meetings of the Bridge, “What do we know about the project development
    stage?” panel moderated by producer Enis Köstepen (Bulut Film) and targeting film students, took place
    today (Friday, 5 April) at Akbank Sanat where Tobias Pausinger and Gabriele Brunnenmeyer shared
    their experiences about the project and development stages in production. The panels in the second week of
    the festival are as follows:

    MONDAY, 8 APRIL

    VoD and New Methods of Film Distribution and Marketing

    11:00 - 12:30

    Pierre-Alexander Labelle, founder of Under the Milky Way, one of the major companies in digital
    distribution and new media industry, will discuss digital marketing, introduce the new social media
    management software Waveback and will make a comparative evaluation of online distribution channels.

    Co-Production with Georgia

    Films produced in Georgia has been great interest for international festivals in recent years. First Turkey-
    Georgia co-produced film ‘Memories of the Wind’s director and producer Özcan Alper (Nar Film) and
    producer Vladimer Katcharava (20 Steps Productions) along with Georgian Film Center deputy director
    Salome Sepashvili and Georgian Eurimages representative Tamara Tatishvili with the participation of
    Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism Deputy Directorate General for Cinema Ali Atlıhan will have a
    review on film funds and essentials of film production in the panel moderated by producer Gülen Güler.

    French Film Industry and Support System
    How does France finance cultural exception?

    Istanbul Bilgi University Santral Campus, Energy Museum Seminar Hall

    In the panel targeting film students from Turkey Éric Garandeau, President of CNC (Centre National du
    Cinéma et de l'image animée), will be giving brief information on the French film industry, the funding system
    and World Cinema Fund (Aide aux Cinemas du Monde).

    The panel is free of charge for film students. There will be shuttle from IKSV @ 14:00

    TUESDAY, 9 APRIL

    Turkey Meets Poland

    10:30 - 12:00
    Akbank Sanat, 2nd Floor

    In 2014 Poland and Turkey will celebrate the 600th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. This
    year, prior to this occasion a film professionals' panel will be held, in order to initiate future co- productions
    between the two countries. The event will be hosted in collaboration with Polish Film Institute and Adam
    Mickiewicz Institute and will be moderated by Bir Film’s CEO Ersan Çongar. The representative of Polish
    Film Institute, Maria Łętowska, the representatives of Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Kamila Kowalska
    and Tomasz Janowski, the representative of Lodz Film School, Marcin Malatyński along with the
    representatives of Wajda School, Joanna Solecka & Agnieszka Marczewska and of Turkish Ministry of
    Culture and Tourism Deputy Directorate General for Cinema Ali Atlıhan will be also participating.

    Today’s Micro Budget Is No Budget

    In the panel moderated by Tobias Pausinger the director and co-producer of the film ‘An Episode in the Life
    of an Iron Picker’, Danis Tanovic, co-producers Cedomir Kolar (A.S.A.P) and Amra Baksic Camo (Scca/
    pro.ba) will discuss the fascinating production process of the this film that was realized with a low budget and
    became the winner of the Jury Grand Prix and Best Actor in Berlin Film Festival. Film will also be screened at
    the Human Rights Competition section of Istanbul Film Festival.

    Master Class on Film Adaptations of Literature

    15:30 – 17:00
    Akbank Sanat, 2nd Floor

    This master class targeting producers, directors and scriptwriters interested in film adaptations of literature
    which we have also started the see in Turkish Cinema in recent years, will be taking place with the
    participation of Isabelle Fauvel, co-founder of Torino Adapt Film Lab. Fauvel will be giving information about
    the workshop and stages of “producing film adaptations of literature” while sharing the 12 tips to focus. There
    will be a case study of the film ‘Our Grand Despair’ by Seyfi Teoman which premiered in 2011 Berlin Film
    Festival competition section and an adaptation from Barış Bıçakçı’s story with the participation of Nadir
    Öperli.

    THURSDAY, 11 APRIL

    Solutions to Post-production Problems in Co-productions

    Who said post-production is only about headaches, technical problems and overspent? Sébastien Delloye
    (Entre Chien et loup), producer and co-founder of ep2c workshops focusing on post-production problem in
    co-productions and Katriel Schory, director of the Israel Film Fund, will be sharing the solutions for the post-
    production challenges that co-producers are familiar with.

    Experience of Co-productions with the Armenia–Turkey Cinema platform

    16:00- 17:30
    French Cultural Center

    In the panel coordinated by French Cultural Center, platform founded by the initiative of Anadolu Kültür
    and Golden Apricot International Film Festival bringing together filmmakers from Turkey and Armenia
    and funding co-productions, will be sharing its six years of experience. Gor Baghdasaryan, director
    of ‘Neighbours’; Lusin Dink, director of Saroyanland to be screened in the 2013 Istanbul Film Festival
    National Competition, President of Golden Apricot International Fim Festival Harutyun Khachatryan,
    platform consultant Melek Ulagay and platform directors Çiğdem Mater with Susanna Harutyunyan will be
    participating.

    Participation fee for all the panels is 75 TL. Entrance to panels is free for festival badge holders. To
    participate at the panels please book in advance at the hospitality desk at the Festival Centre in Akbank
    Sanat, during the festival.

    ADVISORY BOARD OF MEETINGS ON THE BRIGDE

    The Advisory Board of Meetings on the Bridge consists of director of Festival on Wheels, director
    and producer Ahmet Boyacıoğlu; director of Mithat Alam Film Center, SE-YAP member of the board of
