The Ukrainian film „The Tribe”, presented as a work-in-progress at the 9th CentEast Market has received three awardsat the 53rd edition of Cannes Critics' Week (Semaine de la Critique).
The jury of the Cannes Critics' Week awarded the young Ukrainian director's debut feature with the main price The Nespresso Grand Prize, as well as France 4 Visionary Award (awarded by young film critics)and Gan Foundation Support for Distribution supporting promotion and distributon of the film in France.
The film tells a story of a deaf mute teenager struggling to fit into the boarding school system. The film was shot in real boarding schools with real deaf-and-dumb actors. The language of the film is entirely sign language.
Being selected for CentEast Market last year, „The Tribe” was presented as a work-in-progress in October 2013 in Warsaw and Moscow, and recently (April 2014) also at the Beijing Film Market as a part of CentEast in Beijing.
The 10th edition of CentEast Warsaw will take place 17 - 19 October.
