The Febiofest Grand Prix goes to Icelandic director Baldvin Zophoníasson for the film Life in a Fishbowl

    The winner of the International Film Festival Prague - Febiofest drama is Life in a Fishbowl, which won twelve nominations, including Best Film, for the annual prizes of the Icelandic Film Academy The director of the winning film, Baldvin Zophoníasson, has arrived from his native Iceland to attend Febiofest’s Closing Ceremony. The Febiofest Grand Prix includes a check in the amount of € 5,000, which will be presented by Chairwoman of the Jury, actress Vlasta Chramostová.

    Life in a Fishbowl presents a naturalistic and unbiased view of life in Reykjavik before the pain of the economic crisis where the heroine, a mother and kindergarten teacher, must moonlight as a prostitute. The dramatic story of surprising clarity and truth impressed the Febiofest jury headed by Vlasta Chramostová, and the especially powerful story that touches the viewer internally, as well as the subtle script and excellent performances. Life in a Fishbowl in a co-production of Iceland, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic (represent by the company Axman Production).

    This year's Febiofest, which took place mainly in the CineStar Praha - Andel multiplex, was attended by more than 62,000 visitors, which is several hundred more than last year. This year the organizers also held selected screenings at Cinestar - Černý Most which generated great interest. An entirely new audience found the section Febiofest Culinary Cinema which was held in cooperation with the Berlinale Festival: Visitors enjoyed three evenings of movies and food in a specially built restaurant in the Barrandov studio where, after each screening, a spectacular dinner was served. A Swedish film about lovers of Michelin Star restaurants, Foodies was sold out before the festival began, the other two screenings were nearly full.

    The winner of the "You're a filmmaker" competition for movies shot on a tablet or mobile phone is director Zdravko Krstanov’s film A Guest. The three-member jury of distinguished festival guests - Israeli director Eran Riklise, Swedish filmmaker Anders Rune and Dutch director Eché Janga - were impressed by the creative use of media, minimalist storytelling and the author’s eye for detail. The winner receives a 13” MacBook Air.

    At the 22nd edition of Febiofest, five Kristian Awards for Contribution to World Cinema were handed out. This year the prize has already been presented to actress Kim Novak, director Jean-Jacques Annaud and actors Alan Rickman and Jeroen Krabbé. Director John Madden will receive the Kristianat the Closing Ceremony. Madden’s brand new film The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, starring Judi Dench and Richard Gere, will conclude this year’s Febiofest.

    International Film Festival Prague - Febiofest annually supports a special charity. This year the festival will donate 21.440 CZK to the Endowment Fund for Premature Babies and their Families. The 22nd Febiofest ends March 27th, and starting March 30th, viewers across the country can see selected films from the main program in fourteen Czech cities (Brno, Czech Budejovice, Decin, Hradec Králové, Jihlava, Karlovy Vary, Karvina, Liberec, Mikulov, Mladá Boleslav Olomouc, Pardubice, Plzen and Zlin). The Regional Echoes of Febiofest will begin with A Little Chaos, starring Kate Winslet and Still Alice, starring Julianne Moore. Echoes of Febiofest will finish in Zlin on April 17th.
