Trieste, January 18th, 2016 – 37 different countries, 150 international decision makers and more than 300 registered participants: these are the figures of the sixth edition of When East Meets West, the Trieste based co-production forum starting on Sunday 24th of January with a special focus on Spain, Portugal and Latin America. After revealing all the projects selected for the pitching, When East Meets West announces the final line up of the two parallel initiatives dedicated to films in post-production stage.
After the great success of the first edition, Last Stop Trieste - the work in progress section run together with the Trieste Film Festival - will present again this year 4 creative documentaries to an exclusive panel of international sales agents, festival programmers and TV commissioning editors. The 4 selected rough cuts, all from Eastern European countries, have been selected in partnership with BDC Discoveries by Balkan Documentary Center, Docu Rough Cut Boutique, Ex-Oriente Film and Baltic Sea Docs. An international jury composed by Hanka Kastelicova (HBO Europe), Catherine Le Clef (CAT&Docs), Leena Pasanen (Dok Liepzig) and Claudia Schreiner (MDR) will deliver the HBO Europe Award to the most compelling film. Furthermore, this year LST will feature 3 guest projects from Italy, Spain and Brazil thanks to the collaboration with Doc/it, REC - Festival Internacional de Cine de Tarragona and DOCSP.
First Cut Lab will give room to long feature fiction films in editing phase, where 3 selected producer/director teams from Bulgaria, Poland and Czech Republic will receive specialized feedback from ten international experts and tailor-made advice from a consulting editor. The main goal of the lab is to foster artistic, sales and festival potential of the completed films.
Alongside the co-production forum and the two side events, When East Meets West will feature a rich programme including the EAVE live stream session “The Disorderly Digital Marketplace”, the MAIA Workshops master class focusing on the legal aspects of co-production between Europe and Latin America, and #FEEDback, a think tank platform organized in collaboration with Transilvania IFF and Connecting Cottbus and aimed at enhancing the cross-border cooperation between Eastern European countries.
The 7 documentaries presented at Last Stop Trieste and the 3 long feature fiction films chosen for First Cut Lab are:
