Luxembourg at CinEast, Focus on Bulgaria & Ukrainian programme

    ● Luxembourg at CinEast – avant-premières of Luxembourg co-productions 3 Weeks After and Guria with guests, a Luxembourg–CEE Short Film Night, discussion with Jean Asselborn and three Luxembourgish members of juries

    ● Focus on Bulgaria – Bulgarian films, guests, concerts and a Bulgarian evening

    ● Special Ukrainian programme – films, guests, a jazz concert and the charity project CinEast4Ukraine

    LUXEMBOURG AT CINEAST 

    The 19th edition hosts two avant-premières: 

    ◦3 Weeks After by Miroslav Terzić (Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg), co-produced by Paul Thiltges Distributions, in  the presence of actor Jovan Ginić and one of the co-producers (Ciné Utopia, 16/10), 

    ◦Guria by Levan Koguashvili (Georgia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Bulgaria and others), co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg,  presented by the Georgian director as well as co-producer Donato Rotunno (Ciné Utopia, 21/10). 

    For the first time the festival organises a Luxembourg–CEE Short Film Night (four short films, each followed by a Q&A; Ciné  Utopia, 15/10). 

    The festival will also host distinguished local guests:  

    ◦ Jean Asselborn will discuss Ukraine (details below) 

    ◦ Jeanne Werner and Fabrizio Maltese will join the International Jury) - journalist Paulo Lobo will join the Press Jury), and the  Young Talents Jury will be composed of four students of the BTS Cinéma et Audiovisuel at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers. 

    Finally, the CinEast Pro event for producers celebrates its 15th edition (neimënster, 19/10). (more info on Luxembourg@CinEast) 

    FOCUS ON BULGARIA 

    CinEast turns its spotlight this year on Bulgarian cinema with seven feature films, several guests and two concerts:  

    ◦ Pepa Hristova will present her documentary Strandzha at the Bulgarian evening at neimënster (16/10, 19:00), followed by a  tasting of Bulgarian specialities and wine.  

    ◦ The programme also includes the Tribute to Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov with Black Money for White Nights presented by Valchanov – who also serves on the International Jury (Ciné Utopia, 22/10), 

    ◦ In Hell with Ivo by Kristina Nikolova (Mudam, 18/10) 

    ◦ The March of the Amazons by Borislav Kolev 

    ◦ Lust by Ralitza Petrova, with producer Nikolay Todorov (19/10, Ciné Utopia) 

    ◦ Hristo Simeonov’s debut My Father’s Shoes 

    ◦ The Dreamed Adventure by Valeska Grisebach, winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes 2026.  

    On the music side: jazz quartet GloBalKan (10/10, neimënster) and a ciné-concert of Murnau’s Tartuffe by the Wladigeroff  Brothers (18/10, neimënster). Photographer Vesselina Nikolaeva takes part in the “Crossroads” exhibition. (more info)

     

    SPECIAL UKRAINIAN PROGRAMME: 

    CinEast continues its commitment to support Ukraine with a rich programme including films, two debates, a concert and two  photographic projects. 

    ◦Jean Asselborn will participate to the discussion “Ukraine and the EU” after the screening of The Eukrainian (neimënster, 11/10)  

    ◦ resilience and recovery will be the topic of the debate after Second Wind by Masha Kondakova (neimënster, 18/10) about  amputated war veterans climbing Kilimanjaro. 

    ◦ Also on the programme: Mariinka by Pieter-Jan De Pue (Ciné Utopia, 9/10), U Are the Universe by Pavlo Ostrikov (14/10) and  Camouflage by Mykyta Gibalenko (17/10), Hirnyk by Mykola But (Cercle Cité, 18/10). 

    Ukrainian jazz trio ShekBand will perform at neimënster (11/10).  

    ◦ The festival also continues its charity project CinEast4Ukraine launched in March 2022: after raising 12 400 € in 2025 (used to  send an ambulance to Ukraine), the 2026 goal is to raise a similar amount [donations]. (more info on Ukrainian programme)
