Between Two Fires"- feature film debut of Agnieszka Lukasiak, a Polish-Swedish co-production, was selected for another international film festival- it will be screened during Warsaw Film Festival, as a part of "Competition 1-2" for the for first and second feature films by directors from all over the world.
26th Warsaw International Film Festival takes place October 8-17, 2010.
It is one of the key film events in Eastern Europe, recognised by FIAPF as "international competitive film festival". One of Top 20 Euro fests and 50 events not to be missed by "Variety". Five int'l competitive sections: Warsaw Competition, Competition 1-2, Free Spirit Competition, Documentary Competition, European Shorts Competition. Attended by buyers from Poland and the region. The world premiere of "Between Two Fires" will happen a couple days earlier, at Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea, where the film will be presented in World Cinema- Premieres section, that presents a collection of new works by acclaimed directors. This section sets the trends in world cinema, and the titles presented in it are promoted throughout the whole festival.
"Between Two Fires" is a story of Marta (played by Aleksandra Poplawska) that escapes from child trafficking in Belarus and ends up in refugee camp in North Sweden. Marta was played by Magdalena Popławska, debuting in the main role, who played e.g. in „Zero" by Paweł Borowski and „Benek" by Robert Gliński.
The film brings out the issue of immigration, escaping persecution, fighting for survival and human rights Agnieszka Łukasiak, film director: „I wanted to make a film that will turn statistics into reality. A film that will transform numbers and cases we read about into actual people, so that prejudice can become understanding."
Agnieszka Lukasiak, debuting in fiction film with „Between Two Fires", has already directed two acclaimed documentaries: „Algeria, Nameless War" and „Bortglömda", both of which were screened and awarded on many international festivals, including IDFA in Amsterdam, Hot Docs Toronto and Munich, Berlin and Cracow festivals.
The Polish producer of the film is Apple Film Production, that received support of Polish Film Institute. Thanks to the involvement of Polish producer, apart from the director of Polish descent there were also Polish actors in the main roles. The film also has Polish cinematographer- Huber Taczanowski, experienced filmmaker working mainly in UK and USA and the music was composed by talented and awarded Antoni Komasa- Łazarkiewicz.
"Between Two Fires" is a Polish-Swedish co-production created by Hob AB in co-production with Apple Film Production, Filmpool Nord AB, Republiken AB and Sonet Film AB, supported by the Swedish Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute, and the MEDIA Programme of the European Community.
