GRANTS: Bulgaria Announces Second Production Grants in 2016

    SOFIA: Bulgarian National Film Center allotted slightly above 2m EUR / 4 m BGN at its second session on 2 December 2016. Six feature films and four short films received production funding, while script development grants went to three feature films.

    Projects are approved by the NFC selective committee, but in order to determine the final amounts of grants, the NFC requires producers to assure the total financing of their films.

    Approximately 1.3 m EUR / 2.6 m BGN will be split between The Old Dogs by Ivan Nichev (produced by Sinemaskop), The Rest is Ashes by Georgy Kostov (produced by Korund X) and Bobby the Blessed by Stanimir Trifonov (produced by Incoms Project).

    Low budget films Action by Lubomir Pechev (produced by Incoms Project) and The Father by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov (produced by Abraxas Film) will share 400,000 EUR / 800,000 BGN. Debut feature A Bulgarian Ship Sinks by Petrinel Gochev (produced by Gala Film) was allotted slightly above 200,000 EUR / 400,000 BGN.

    A total of 102,108 EUR / 200,000 BGN was allotted to four short films, while 30,678 EUR / 60,000 BGN went to the development of three scripts.
