GRANTS: Bulgaria Announces Second Round of Production Grants for 2020

    SOFIA: The Bulgarian National Film Center gave 1,987,397 EUR / 3,877,000 BGN to nine films in production and nine films in development at its second session of grants for Bulgarian feature films in December 2020. The production grants go to two films with high budgets, three with lower budgets, one debut and three shorts.

    The amount of 943,500 EUR / 1,877,000 BGN will be split between two projects. The first one is Gambit (Contrast Films) written by Konstantin Bojanov and Petar Krumov and directed by Konstantin Bojanov, and the second film is Plague (Miramar) written by Boyan Biolchev and directed by Ivan Vladimirov. Konstantin Bojanov is known for his 2011 debut Avé (Kamera/KB Films) and his English-language 2017 Light Thereafter, a coproduction between Bulgaria’s Multfilm, UK’s Film & Music Entertainment and Belgium’s Left Field Ventures. Ivan Vladimirov’s Scenes from the Life of an Actress (Gala Film) won three prizes at the 38th Golden Rose FF: the Jury Special Award, Best Director and Best Script.

    The nine projects selected for development support will split the amount of 90,000 EUR / 180,000 BNG.

    The producers have 18 months to close their budgets and to get final approval by the Financial Committee to the national institution for film.
