ZAGREB: Steven Quale’s action thriller The Lake, produced by Luc Besson through EuropaCorp started shooting in Croatia on 17 June 2015. The film is the most ambitious international production filming in Croatia this year.

According to Filming in Croatia department from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVCEuropaCorp is projected to spend approximately 7 m EUR (over 50 m HRK) in Croatia, and will get back approximately 1.3 m EUR (10 m HRK) through Croatia’s film incentives. Croatian Pakt Media is providing services in Croatia.

Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire) stars in the story of a group of Navy SEALs attempting to uncover an immense treasure hidden in a lake in war-torn Bosnia. Oscar winner J.K. Simmons, Charlie Bewley and Diarmaid Murtagh join the cast.

“Since there are a lot of underwater sequences, one possibility was to shoot in Malta, where they have a water tank facility”, explains the producer Raphaël Benoliel. “The reason why we opted for Croatia was the favourable experience our line-producer had with Canal Plus’s Borgia in Dubrovnik last year.”

More than half of the film crew is Croatian. Croatian actors Marko Cindrić and Denis Brižić feature in supporting roles, alongside numerous other Croatian actors and over 1,000 extras. The Lake began filming in Germany end of April and will wrap in Croatia after 57 shooting days on 24 July 2015. The premiere is set for summer 2016.
