KARLOVY VARY: Representatives from Globo Films and TV Globo, divisions of Brazil’s (and South America’s) largest media group, Globo, arrived in Karlovy Vary to meet with the Czech film and TV industry in an exploratory visit to discuss shooting in the Czech Republic.

Meetings held at Barrandov film studio’s (www.barrandov.cz) headquarters during the Karlovy Vary IFF (www.kviff.com) introduced Globo projects to Czech film and TV professionals. The Brazilians are looking into the possibility of producing a telenovella set in the Czech Republic to provide an exotic locale for its South American audiences.

Guilherme C. Bokel, International Content Executive Director in charge of coproductions, told FNE, “We are looking for opportunities around the world.” He referred to Globo productions set against the backdrops of China and Morocco which were successful with its audiences.

“Probably in the future we will have a telenovella to bring to the Czech Republic,” Edson Pimental, Executive Director of Globo Films told FNE. “We don’t have a specific project, but we are in discussions with directors and producers here.” The Globo representatives said it would be possible that they would bring a project to the Czech Republic in 2014. They added that they are looking only at the Czech Republic at this time.

Shooting would take place on locations, with the local industry benefitting in large part through equipment rental.
