PRAGUE: Czech Oscar winner Jan Svěrák is in production on the music fairy tale Tři bratři  (Three Brothers), based on the script by his father, Zdeněk, who has incorporated music and texts from children's operettas he wrote with Jaroslav Uhlíř for the Czech National Theatre.

The simple, classic story follows three brothers as they leave their farmhouse and travel the world with the aim of ridding themselves of their own bad character traits. Vojtěch Dyk, Tomáš Klus and Zdeněk Piškula play the lead roles with a supporting cast including Jiří Lábus, Zuzana Norisová, David Matásek, Ivana Chýlková, Oldřich Kaiser and the elder Svěrák himself as narrator.

Brothers, targeted at both children and adults, has brought in major talents such as DoP Vladimír Smutný, costumer Simona Rybáková and set designer Jan Vlasák, promising a richly textured tale filled with the characteristic wry humor of the director and his father.

The project, by Biograf Jan Svěrák, will be Czech–Danish co-production with a budget of approximately 40 m CZK (1.5 m EUR). The film was supported by 115,562 EUR from the Czech state cinematography fund. Czech cinema distributor Bontonfilm plans the release for May 2014.
