PLZEN: Expect intense interest when leading young Czech and international actor Jiří Mádl (Borgia, Four Suns, Colette) makes his directorial and scriptwriting debut with To See a Sea (Pojedeme k mori), which screens under the title To the Sea in competition at the 27th Finale Plzen festival, running 27 April – 3 May 2014.

The film was released in Czech cinema distribution on 10 April 2014, making a strong debut in fourth spot for its opening weekend, with 11,600 admissions.

The film, produced with a low budget of 12 m CZK (450,000 EUR) by Bio Illusion and coproduced by Czech TV and Slovak distribution company Continental Film, received substantial publicity even before the release, due to its screening at this year´s Berlinale film market and also thanks to the huge popularity of its director Jiří Mádl.

The main character of the film is ten-year-old Thomas who is given a camera as a birthday present and decides to make a film in the style of Miloš Forman, becoming the narrator, cinematographer and director of a deeply human story of his family and friends. The plot is also a detective story of Tomas’s search for his father's secret. The film was shot with a hand-held camera and edited as if by a twelve-year-old boy, with the viewer perceiving the world through the eyes of the child.

The main actors are Petr Šimčák, Jan Maršál, Lucie Trmíková, Ondřej Vetchý and Jaroslava Pokorná. Edita Kainrathová is the DOP.
