PRAGUE: Director/scriptwriter Marta Nováková is in postproduction with 8 Heads of Madness, a feature based on the life of the Russian poet Anna Alexandrovna Barkova (1901-1976), who spent 22 years in the Soviet Gulags.

According to Marta Nováková, the film talks about “the eternal struggle of the artist against the outside world but also against his own demons and desires”, and it is “a cut through the desperate 20th century in a desperate country seen through the sympathetic and sensitive eyes of a poet”.

Marta Nováková, who has worked on this project since 2008, started shooting in 2012. The postproduction is complicated and includes animated and pseudo-documentary sequences. Charismatic and popular Czech singer Anetta Langerova plays Anna Alexandrovna Barkova.

Julietta Sichel is producing through 8 Heads Productions in coproduction with the Czech Television, CINEART TV Prague, i/o post, Michael Samuelson Lighting Prague and Moss & Roy.

The budget is 767,543 EUR/ 21 m CZK. The Czech State Cinematography Fund´s grant is supporting.
