Jan Hrebejk and Jiri Strach to Direct New Series for Czech TV

    PRAGUE: Top Czech directors Jan Hrebejk and Jiri Strach are among those chosen to by Czech pubcaster Czech Television to direct its line-up of new TV series this autumn.

    The new original series are Doktor Martin, directed by Petr Zahrádka, the Nordic noir genre series Labyrint of Jiří Strach, the six-episode crime series The Crime Scene Plzen by Jan Hřebejk and Everybody Likes Rudy, an adaptation of the famous American series Everybody Loves Raymond, starring Jitka Schneiderova and Saša Rašilov.

    The Czech Television is going through a good summer. Its first channel, CT 1, had the biggest increase in market share in July 2015 compared to last year, 16.49 % market share. The second channel had an average market share of 5.18%, while the news channel CT 24 celebrated its best month of the year as well with a share reaching almost 5%. The cumulative market share of all Czech TV channels reached 31.53%.

    The Czech Television will also enrich its programme offer in autumn on with new types of TV formats."When discussing the programme for the next season on CT1, we decided for two main directions. The first one is to consolidate original quality series programming. We cooperate with the best directors, such as Jiri Strach, the creator of the best European TV film of 2014 or the winner of Czech Lions, Jan Hrebejk. The second direction is healthy innovation and the introduction of new formats, such as docu-soap or docu-reality,“ Petr Dvořák, the director of Czech TV, said in a statement.
