HBO Shooting Noir Series in Czech Republic

    PRAGUE: HBO Europe started shooting an eight part series titled Pustina / Wasteland, a dramatic story of a village community on the verge of decline which is hit by a series of mysterious and shocking events. The scriptwriter is Štěpán Hulík the winner of Czech Lion for the best screenplay for the acclaimed series and film Burning Bush directed by Agnieszka Holland and also produced by HBO.

    The production will spend 88 m CZK (3.2 m EUR) in the Czech Republic and has been supported with 17.6 m CZK (651,000 EUR) by the State Cinematography Fund.

    Ivan Zacharias, an award-winning director of commercials who was hired by HBO as the series´ supervisor will direct first four parts himself. The remaining four parts will be directed by the successful film director Alice Nellis.

    The producers are Prague based nutprodukce and Etamp Film Production, the HBO Europe creative producer is Tereza Polachová. The shooting will continue till May 2016, mostly in the Czech Republic and Czech-Polish border area. The broadcast is planned for the fall 2016.
