Hungarian/Romanian Series Spy/Master to Be Released Globally on HBO Max

    BUDAPEST: First two episodes of the six-part drama series Spy/Master produced by Hungary’s Proton Cinema and Romania’s Mobra Films for HBO Max will be released on HBO Max platforms globally on 19 May 2023.

    The remaining four episodes of the series directed by Christopher Smith will debut weekly on the streaming service, and later in the summer of 2023 on Warner TV Serie in Germany, according to a press release.

    Created by Adina Sădeanu and Kirsten Peters, Spy/Master is set during the height of the Cold War and covers a week in the life of a fictional character Victor Godeanu, played by Romanian actor Alec Secăreanu, the right-hand man and closest advisor to Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.

    The international cast includes Parker Sawyers, Svenja Jung, Ana Ularu, Laurențiu Bănescu and Iulian Postelnicu.

    The series was the winner of HBO’s national screenwriting competition in Romania “Write a Screenplay for…”, initiated by Cristian Mungiu through Asociatia Cinemascop.

    The first two episodes had their world premiere at Berlin Film Festival’s Berlinale Series 2023.
