WARSAW: The hit series format House by the Backwater from Polish public broadcaster TVP has bought by Latvian TV.

TVP Sales informed FNE that the Latvian broadcaster LTV bought the rights to make a local version of the Polish drama based on a popular novel series written by Małgorzata Kalicińska. The Latvian version will be produced in summer 2014 and broadcasted as part of the upcoming fall program line-up. The popular series is an optimistic, warm drama about the life of a 40-year-old woman who tries to find a balance between work and family life.

House by The Backwater was produced by TVP1 in 2009 directed by Adek Drabiński. The script, based by Kalicińska's novel, was written by Maciej Sobieszczański. The show had an all star cast of Polish actors including Joanna Brodzik in the lead and ran for three continuous seasons with an average of 4.6 m viewers per episode. The series was also very popular among the viewers of TVP Polonia, the public broadcaster's channel for Poles living abroad.

The sale continues a growing trend for TVP selling its productions abroad. In March of 2014 TVP’s sales office informed FNE that it sold over 20 titles to seven different countries including Germany, Turkey and China. (see the full article:
