VILNIUS: Controversial director Emilis Velyvis is working on his new action-comedy-thriller Flight Redirected, the story of four friends turned first-time robbers, who get stranded in an Eastern Europe and have to find their way back, taking on smugglers, dirty cops and fantasies.

Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, X-Men: The Last Stand) plays Golden Pole and Russian actor Artur Smolyaninov (9th Company, The Darkest Hour) plays Doncius. The cast also includes British actors Scot Williams, Gil Darnell, Oliver Jackson and Antony Strachan along with Lithuanians Vytautas Sapranauskas, and Kestutis Jakstas.

The project is the third feature for cult director Velyvis, known for his crime comedies Zero 2 (2010), Zero (2006) and shorts The Knot (Mazgas, 2005) and Lietuviai ES (2004). Zero 2 was the most profitable Lithuanian box office hit of 2010 with 71,000 viewers.

Flight Redirected is backed by the Lithuanian ministry of culture (www.lrkm.lt) and private investors, a coproduction of Lithuania's Kino Kultas and Meed Films (www.meedfilms.com) and the UK’s Wellington Films, with producers Asta Liukaityte, Donatas Zvalionis, Alastair Clark and Rachel Robey. The national premiere is set for January 2014 with an international release the following month.
