The producers are now casting the leads and lining up production crews.
Kavaite recently returned from France where she has been writing and directing. Her directorial debut was Ecoute le Temps, a mystical drama starring Emilie Dequenne which was released in France and England in 2007.
“I only came back to Lithuania two weeks ago,” Kavaite said, “but I am already head over heels in prep work. I enjoy collaborating with a Lithuanian crew again, and the local youths are a big inspiration for the story I am trying to tell. I myself left Lithuania while a teenager, so returning to film a teen drama has a very symbolic meaning for me.”
Sangaile is a drama about a young girl with a fear of heights who dreams of becoming an aerial acrobatics pilot.
The film is a coproduced by French partner Les Films d‘Antoine. The crew is Lithuanian except the director of photography, Kavaite’s collaborator Dominique Colin.
“We‘re very happy to have such a talented artist back,” producer Zivile Gallego said. “We have been working on Sangaile for two years and received the support of MEDIA for development, so we‘re very excited to finally get the preproduction going. The scenes of aerial acrobatics are what I‘m anticipating the most – it will be a unique visual element in the history of Lithuanian cinema.”
Filming will begin at the end of July. Sangaile will be shot in Lithuania, and postproduction will be carried out in France.
