Lithuania sends Loss to Oscar race

    Lithuania has chosen Maris Martinsons' Loss as its first feature film to compete for selection the Best Foreign Language category.

    Loss broke opening week-end box office records for a Lithuanian film, bringing in 55,000 Euros in three days, and 172,000 Euros since its January 2008 release, becoming the third highest grossing Lithuanian film. Loss was produced by ART&A Film Production, with co-producers ARTeta and the Lithuanian Film Studios. The distributor is Forum Cinemas.

    Loss won Best Director and Best Music (for local rock legend Andrius Mamontovas) at the Shanghai film festival, and had a North American premiere at the Montreal film festival. It will compete at upcoming festivals in San Paulo and Cairo.

    The production team includes Linda Krukle, Maris Martinsons, and Zivile Gallego, producers; screenplay by Martinsons and Raimondas Paskevicius: executive producers Ramunas Skikas and Violeta Kilsauskiene.
