FESTIVALS: Cinedays European Film Festival Opens in Skopje

    SKOPJE: Fourteen European films will compete for the main prizes of the 17th edition of Cinedays Festival of European Film, running 8 - 18 November in Skopje. Eight films will compete in the Official Competition and six in the CineBalkan Programme.

    Тhis year the festival will have an informal opening in the Youth Cultural Center with UK/Belgian/Italian/German coproduction The Happy Prince directed by the British actor Rupert Everett. Macedonian indie feature Hey! / Еј by Macedonian director Vasil Hristov will close the festival.

    More than 100 films will be screened in several categories: Official Competition and CineBalkan and noncompetitive Gala Programme, Music Documentaries Programme, Eye on Films Programme, Macedonian Short Film Programme, MK in EU Programme, Retrospective of early works of Milos Forman, CINEDAYS+ Programme, Student Programme and Children Programme. Over 20 titles in the attractive gala-programme with the latest performances by Lars von Trier, Godard, Sorrentino, Pawlikowski, Spike Li, Yorgos Lanthimos…

    The festival's additional programme includes eleven concerts and five workshops, one forum with focus on film festivals, two films exhibitions and the first CINEIndustry Film Market, which is a two-days event focused on distribution. The films will be screened in cinemas Milenium and Frosina and the Pocket cinema of the Youth Cultural Center during the 11 festival days.

    The Official programme jury is composed of three women: film and theatre actress Verica Nedeska, film professor and theoretician Alexandra Nakelski and Brigitta Manthey, advisor for film funding at Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, while the CineBalkan jury is composed of a director and writer Izer Aliu, Slovene/French actress and performer Inti Šraj and Turkish producer and writer Servan Güney.  

    The festival is supported by the Macedonian Film Agency and the City of Skopje.
