TVP to Launch New Channels

WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP, www.tv.pl), plans to create two new thematic channels in 2012 and 2013. Juliusz Braun, the President of TVP, announced the planned launch of TVP Rozrywka (TVP Entertainment) and TVP Dokument (TVP Documentary).

"TVP Dokument will present all the best examples of both local and international documentary production. TVP Rozrywka will propose attractive Polish entertainment on the highest level, devoid of violence and action, but with a sense of humour, intelligent and sensitive to all displays of artistic creativity," TVP told FNE in an official statement. TVP applied for a concession for creating these two channels to the National Broadcasting Council (www.krrit.gov.pl) earlier this year and is now waiting for the final decision. TVP has already launched five thematic channels: T VP Kultura (www.tvpkultura.beta.v3.tvp.pl), TVP Sport (sport.tvp.pl), TVP Historia (www.historia.beta.v3.tvp.pl), TVP HD (hd.beta.v3.tvp.pl) and TVP Seriale (www.seriale.beta.v3.tvp.pl). All of them continue to garner good results, helping TVP remain competitive against the private broadcasters.
