Albert Cinema tells the story of Leszek, Heniek and Walus who arrived at Brother Albert’s Shelter for the homeless. The men had been homeless for over 15 years with alcohol problems and criminal pasts, and with no families, no jobs, and no future. Films changed their lives, with film-therapy becoming an important part of the process of ending their homelessness.

“It’s a story of a true passion – passion that can change someone’s life, even when it seems impossible,” said the producer, Agnieszka Zwiefka. “The strongest element of the film however is the dialogue of our protagonists – very often funny, mocking each other, quarreling, but most of all sharing the same passion and discovering the power of film.”

Albert Cinema is produced by Chilli Productions (www.chilliproductions.com). The project was developed during Lisbon Docs 2011 (www.doclisboa.org) and Dragon Forum International Academy of the Document (www.dragonforum.pl) followed by pitching at the Krakow International Film Festival (www.krakowfilmfestival.pl). It was presented during Docu Talents from The East at Karlovy Vary IFF (www.kviff.com).

Albert Cinema has also been selected by TVP1 (www.tvp.pl) as one of the films to be completed in 2012 and received 15,000 EUR in financial support. Albert Cinema is one of four documentary films funded by Odra Film (www.odra-film.wroc.pl) this year with the amount of 37,000 EUR. Its total budget is planned to be 90,000 EUR.

Albert Cinema is in early stages of editing and the final stage of shooting in Wrocław. A search is on for sales agents and pre-buys offers.

The film premiere is planned in January or February 2013.
