Girl is a feature debut for Kox, who gained recognition as an original indie filmmaker. In 2005 he made Look-alike, which he directed and produced on his own. He is a directing student at the Polish National Film School in Łódź (PWSFTviT) and a graduate of the Rehearsal Studio feature film course at the Wajda School. "I wanted to make a film that would have some value," Kox told FNE, "saying something about an important and serious issue but diluted with humor because I think that having a sense of humor is the most important thing in life. I prefer laughter to sadness, but I also like movies that force the viewer to reflect."
The leading roles are played by Piotr Głowacki and Wojciech Mecwaldowski who are joined by a debutant Magdalena Różańska. Girl was produced by Documentary and Feature Film Production Company (WFDiF,www.wfdif.com.pl) in co-production with CANAL + and shot in Warsaw in early 2012. The budget was 3,440,371 PLN (EUR 830,000) with support from the Polish Film Institute (www.pisf.pl). The distributor is Kino Świat who reported 14,000 viewers during its opening weekend on 14 June. It has now had over 82,000 viewers with international sales of the managed by WFDiF.
