FNE at EFA Awards 2014: Poland’s Ida Scoops Top European Awards

    RIGA: Poland was celebrating the resounding win of Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida in Riga Saturday night as the hit film made a clean sweep of the awards for best European film, best director, best script, best cinematography and the People’s Choice audience award.

    The black and white film produced by Opus Film (PL) and Phoenix Film (DK) in association with Portobello Pictures (GB) and supported by the Polish Film Institute, has been a resounding success with international sales throughout the world as well as nominations for the upcoming Golden Globes and Oscars. Ida has already made over 3.7m USD in USA alone and has been distributed in over 30 countries including UK, France, Israel and Italy with international sales managed by Fandango. Ida has already won over 50 awards.

    Croatia also scored a win with Una Guniak’s German Croatian coproduction The Chicken which won the Best European Short Film of 2014. The film also won the top prize for best short film at this year’s edition of the Let’s CEE Film Festival in Vienna.

    The 27th European Film Awards were hosted by Riga at the Latvian National Theatre on 13 December 2014 as the culminating event of Riga as the European Capital of Culture for 2014. More than 3,000 members of the European Film Academy which is composed of filmmakers from across Europe voted for voted for this year’s European Film Awards.

    Latvia also celebrated with the Riga Film Festival 2-12 December and the Riga Meetings 9-12 December 2014.
