Blindness / Zaćma follows a lesser-known episode from the life of a Stalinist criminal, the colonel of the Security Office Julia Brystiger. She was nick-named Bloody Luna, as she would torment the prisoners with exceptional cruelty during interrogations.
"This character fascinated me for some time. It is a universal story, a study of suffering and anxiety rather than a period drama, but we tried to show the times as accurately as possible", the writer/director said.
The film was produced by Ryszard Bugajski through RB Film in coproduction with Telewizja Polska, the Society for Arts (USA), Studio Produkcyjne Orka, the Mazovia Film Fund, Mazovia Culture Institute and Narodowe Centrum Kultury.
The budget is 815,846 EUR / 3.5 m PLN, of which 58,272 EUR / 1.5 m PLN was covered by a grant from the Polish Film Institute.
After the premiere at the Gdynia Film Festival, the film will be released in Polish cinemas by Kino Świat on 14 October 2016.
