Kotkowski Wins Best Director at Cairo

    Polish director Andrzej Kotkowski won the best director award at the 34th Cairo Film Festival, which concluded on 9 December 2010, for Born of the Sea.

    Born of the Sea was produced by Profilm and TVP and backed by the Polish Film Instistute. The film is based on Stanisława Fleszarowa's book which tells the story of building the city of Gdynia in the early 1920's. Against the background of the loves and struggles of its young characters, the film shows the work of engineers and thousands of people from all the levels of society who united in the effort of building a city that changed the political and economical situation of the Baltic Sea region.

    Born of the Sea was one of the 17 feature films in the Cairo IFF's competition. The festival's Digital Competition screened the international premiere of the TVP's Panopticon by Barbara Kurzaj and Sławomir Shuty.
