PRODUCTION: TVP Drama Series Aida

    WARSAW: Polish public broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP, www.tvp.pl) has commissioned the first season of Aida, a new Polish series based on a Spanish format.

    Aida follows the life of a single mother who struggles to raise two difficult teenagers. She is supported by her charming and flirtatious brother Antek and her mother Kalina, who blames Aida for everything that went wrong with their family's life.

    The lead is played by a popular Polish actress Sonia Bohosiewicz, winner of the Best Supporting Actress at the Polish Eagles 2010 for Snow White and Russian Red. She is accompanied by her younger sister Maja Bohosiewicz, who plays her daughter on the show. The cast also includes Jakub Wróblewski, Michał Zieliński and Iwona Bielska.

    The series is based on a Spanish production of the same title. Spanish station Telecinco (www.telecinco.es) has successfully aired Aida since 2005. The Polish version is directed Xawery Żulawski, a noted Polish feature film director praised for his drama Snow White and Russian Red. He also directed two popular TVP series, Pitbull (2008) and Dancers (2010). The adaptation of the script for the Polish production was made by Akradiusz Borowik.

    The shoot for Aida began on the 24 March 2011. The executive producer is SPI Film Studio (www.spifilmstudio.com). TVP has commissioned 13 episodes, each 45 minutes long. The premiere is planned for fall 2011 on the public bradcaster's second channel TVP 2.
