PRODUCTION: New Georgian Ukrainian German coproduction set to shoot in summer 2012

    BERLIN: A new Georgian Ukrainian German coproduction Ursus the Caucasian Brown Bear is set to shoot in the Ukraine and Georgia in July and August of 2012. The 3.3m USD coproduction goes into pre-production next month.

    The project will be produced and directed by Georgian Otar Shamatava who also co-wrote the script together with Zaza Buadze.

    Popular actor Bogdan Benyuk will star in the film which is set against the backdrop of the little known civil war which took place in Georgia on 31 December 1991. The film is described as a tragic-comedy.

    The project has already won backing from the Georgian National FilmCenter (www.gnfc.ge). Fresh Production in the Ukraine headed by Oleg Shcherbyna will coproduce in the Ukraine and is putting up 20% of the financing. Haino Deckert of Ma. Ja. De.will coproduce in Germany. The film project was presented at the recent Berlinale EFM.
