FESTIVALS: Sixteen goEast Competition Films Vie for Awards

    Ten feature films and six documentary films will screen in the goEast film festival, running 9-15 April 2014.

    The films, all from Eastern Europe or Germany, will compete for four prizes: the ŠKODA Film Award (10,000 EUR); the Award of the City of Wiesbaden for Best Director (7,500 EUR), the Award of the Federal Foreign Office (4,000 EUR) for “artistic originality which creates cultural diversity”; and the “Remembrance and Future” Documentary Award (10,000 EUR) of the Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future.”

    In addition to the awards in the main Competition, the BHF-BANK Foundation will sponsor the Open Frame Award for Experimental Film and Video Art (5,000 EUR) for the first time, and the goEast Development Award (3,500 euro) will be presented in the context of the East-West Talent Lab.

    A total of 140 films from 22 countries will be shown at the festival, including 13 German premieres and two world premieres in the competition. Polish New Wave, new Slovak cinema, and Czech animation are the subjects of festival special sections.
