Outstanding 2024 Locarno FF for Films from FNE Partner Countries

    LOCARNO: Films from FNE partner countries finished the 77th Locarno Film Festival (7 – 17 August 2024) with several awards, including the Golden Leopard in the Concorso Internazionale for Lithuanian debut feature Toxic by Saulė Bliuvaitė and the Golden Leopard in the Concorso Cineasti del Presente for the Georgian majority coproduction Holy Electricity directed by another first time director, Tato Kotetishvili.

    Screened in the Concorso Internazionale, Lithuanian/Latvian coproduction Drowning Dry by Laurynas Bareiša received the Best Director Award, while Gelminė Glemžaitė, Agnė Kaktaitė, Giedrius Kiela, Paulius Markevičius received the award for Best Performance in the same film.

    The 100% Hungarian coproduction Lesson Learned by Bálint Szimler, which screened in Concorso Cineasti del Presente, received the Leopard for Best Performance for actress Anna Mészöly. The film shared a Special Mention with the Serbian/US coproduction When the Phone Rang directed by Iva Radivojević.

    Toxic also received the Swatch First Feature Award, the Ecumenical Jury Award and the Second Prize from the Junior Jury, while Holy Electricity added the First Prize from the Junior Jury.
