MEDIA support for Slovenian films announced

By Matevs Rudolf
Three Slovenian projects have been awarded 113,500 EUR in support from the EU MEDIA programme.

Most of the money (68,500 EUR) will go to Ljubljana International Film Festival (www.liffe.si). A second festival, Animateka International Animated Film Festival (www.animatekafestival.org), receives 15,000 EUR. Festival producer company Forum Ljubljana (www.ljudmila.org/forum) receives 30,000 EUR for developing a film project by director Vinko Möderndorfer, Inferno. Producer Eve Rohrman said, "We are happy that the MEDIA commission recognized the contemporary European story in Inferno and chose to support the development of the film."

This was the first year that a film festival could apply for long-term support (4 year contract). The support for two festivals in Slovenia was judged a success. The support for Animateka festival is hoped to boost its international recognition. Ljubljana international film festival is one of the 52 MEDIA supported film festival, and its 20th jubilee edition gained the second highest support of all awarded festivals. The Ljubljana festival will organize its second Neighbouring Coproduction Meetings. Producers from the five countries, decision makers, experts and interested public will gather for the November 15 - 17 event.

Other MEDIA support for Slovenian film projects will be announced in June 2010.
