The film, a Czech/Slovak/Polish/Hungarian coproduction, tells the fantastically reimagined story of Erzsebet Bathory, a Slovak aristocrat who was infamously compared to Vlad the Impaler, the model for Dracula.

The film stars UK actress Anna Friel as the Hungarian countess who resided in Slovakia, Czech actor Karel Roden, and Franco Nero. Bathory won several awards from both the Slovak and Czech film academies.
