Ad market revenues drop in 2009

    The TV advertising market has dropped by over 30% in Romania in the first half of 2009.

    Pro TV (www.protv.ro) revenues decreased by 27% and Acasa TV (www.acasatv.ro) revenues by 23%, according to estimates and analysis by Sound Communication (www.soundcommunications.ro), a local media audit and consultancy agency.

    Prima TV (www.primatv.ro) revenues decreased 20% comparing to January through June 2008 and Antena 1 (www.antena1.ro) channel declined 5%. Kanal D (www.kanald.ro) may be the only local station to increase its revenues, which were up 5%.

    The analysis compared the first six months of 2009 with the same period in 2008. The ad money in the TV market dropped with more than 30% between January and June 2009, with bottom tier stations suffering most. The top ten TV stations sold 78% of the total TV advertising in 2009, up 2% more than last year.
