Slovakia sees strong foreign sales

    Following a rise in local film production and co-productions, Slovakia is finding increased sales fo foreign territories for its top titles.

    Blind Loves, the Artileria (www.artileria.sk) documentary by Juraj Lehotsky that captivated audiences at Cannes in 2008, has been sold to France, Hungary, Switzerland (German speaking territory), Netherlands, and Czech Republic.

    Muzika, an Alef Film (www.afm.sk) co-production with Germany, is set to open soon in Czech Republic.

    Broken Promise, a new release with international sales handled SPI International (www.spi-film.eu)partner company Film Europe (www.filmeurope.eu) landed a sale in the U.S. to Picture This! Entertainment (www.picturethisent.com).

    The Slovak Film Institute heads to Cannes with two films, both minority co-productions. English Strawberries is co-produced by Slovak distributor Continental Film (www.continental-film.sk). Bathory, from Slovak auteur Juraj Jakubisko (www.jakubiskofilm.com), is already headed to a summer premiere in Russia and a fall premiere in Hungary, after leading the box office in Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 2008.
